The rugged land steadily slopes upward to PS, House. At the top of this escarpment, it sits among the cedars overlooking a small lake. Pink and green granite jut out from underneath the lichen. A connection to this scenery, as well as a need to maximize efficiency, led to an open ground floor organized around a central kitchen. Principal and guest bedrooms and bathrooms are stacked, and a large multi-functional mezzanine looks onto the double height living areas below. The traditional gabled-roof volume is clad in silvery corrugated sheet metal that at once contrasts in texture and feel but also reflects back many of the colors and tones of the surrounding landscape. Openings are crafted so that views become both large tableaus and small, unexpected vignettes of the outdoors.
